Lawtell - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricky Kurt Castille who was a longtime resident of Lawtell, LA, on Friday, April 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 63.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Rev. Fr. Justin Arockiasamy, S. V. D. will be the celebrant for the Mass.  A private Rite of Committal will follow at a later date at St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell, LA.

Ricky was born and raised in Church Point, LA, and was a longtime resident of Lawtell, LA. He worked as a CDL driver for the State of LA – D.O.T.D. for many years.  He was a hard worker and dedicated employee for 13 years.  He was a handyman who helped anyone in need.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5532 in Lawtell.

He cherished spending quality time with his family and friends.  He was an amazing father and a loving and caring grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He put everyone and their needs before himself.  He was funny, witty, a joker, and known as “a cool uncle” with a fun personality.  He enjoyed being outdoors tending to his animals, working on projects, and crawfish farming for many years.  He would adventure off to the horse races and to his favorite hangout, Joel Castille’s Feed Store in Lawtell to visit with others. Ricky will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by three daughters, Michaela F. Sylvester and husband, Mathew of Grand Prairie; Angel M. Castille and fiancé, Craig Lafleur of Lawtell; and Kari E. Castille of Eunice; two brothers, Kenneth Castille of Lawtell; and Carl Castille of Lawtell; one sister, Connie Fontenot and husband, Vernall of Leonville.  Ricky also leaves behind four grandchildren, Mattox Heard Sylvester, Isiah William Cates, Hunter Sage Lafleur, and Owen Joseph Lafleur; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke Elgie Castille and Mary Mathilde Lavergne Castille; grandparents: Gilbert Lavergne and Lena Lavergne; and Joel Castille, Sr. and Lilly Mae Castille; brother, James Castille; and niece, Natalie Diamonde.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.   A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.  On Monday, visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mathew Sylvester, Craig Lafleur, Benjamin Castille, Cody Diamonde, Ethan Castille, and Chris Berry.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ashton Joel LeBlanc, Isiah Cates, Shawn Reeves, and Hubert Earl “Buddy” Cates.
