Rita Devalcourt

Opelousas - Funeral services for Rita Devalcourt, age 85, will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Johns Catholic Church in Lewisburg, Louisiana followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.

Msgr. Jefferson Deblanc, Jr. will conduct the services.

Mrs. Devalcourt, a resident of Lewisburg, died on May 19, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Devalcourt was a member of the rosary group at St. Johns Catholic Church. She also served the Lord by visiting shut-ins and the elderly.

Mrs. Devalcourt is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Devalcourt, Jr. of San Francisco, CA; John Ferrell Devalcourt and his wife, Donna, of Napoleonville, LA; one brother, J.B. Cormier of Lewisburg, LA; one sister, Mary Hazel Cormier of Lewisburg, LA and four granddaughters, Melissa; Lori; Denise and Lani. She is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Devalcourt was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Devalcourt, Sr.; one son, James Donny Devalcourt; 9 brothers, Oscar; Lewis; Ewel; Elvin; Lloyd; Alton; Merrick; Joseph, Jr.; and Enos Cormier. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mable Cormier and Elize Fontenot.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008, until time of service. A rosary will be held on Wednesday evening.
