Mrs. Rosa Mae David Doucet, known to many as “Rose”, was a beloved and cherished soul. She passed away on February 9, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette at the age of 82. She was born on February 3, 1942, in Washington, Louisiana. Throughout her remarkable journey, Rose graced the world with love, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas with Father Matthew Higginbotham officiating. Rite of Committal and interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Brock Doucet, Cody Doucet, Bradley Cheatham, David Tate, Alexander Boyer and Dr. Christen Boyer. Brooks Boyer will be an Honorary pallbearer.
Rose worked as a nurse at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia for nearly 50 years, leaving an indelible mark on all those she cared for. Her unwavering commitment and compassionate nature endeared her to countless patients and earned her the utmost respect from colleagues and friends alike.
Rose’s family was her greatest joy. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she lavished immeasurable love upon her treasured family members. Gathering around the warmth of her presence brought happiness to all who were fortunate enough to experience it. She cherished the moments she spent with her grandchildren.
Faith played an integral role in Rose’s life. A devout Catholic, she found solace and guidance in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia. She instilled the values of devotion and spirituality into the hearts of her loved ones—leaving an enduring spiritual heritage for generations to come.
Rose loved tending to her garden. Her fondness for animals was boundless. In particular, she held a special place in her heart for her cats and chickens, who brought her immeasurable joy. In her later years, she relocated to Arnaudville, Louisiana, to live with her son on his farm. Here she experienced unconditional love from her family.
She is survived by her son, Gerald James “Jerry” Doucet Jr. of Arnaudville; her daughter, Charlotte Marie Doucet Blanda and husband, Dr. Louis Blanda of Lafayette; her grandchildren: Brooks Boyer and wife, Leslie of Norfolk, Nebraska; Dr. Christen "Chris" Boyer and wife, Virginia of Seabrook, Texas; Alexander Boyer of New Iberia, LA; Bradley Scott Cheatham and wife, Brook of Gulf Shores, Alabama; Brittany Doucet Tate and husband, David of Richard, LA; Brock Doucet and fiancé, Ashtyn Waguespack of Carencro, LA; Courtney Doucet Schnellbacher and husband, A.J. of Stuart, Florida; and Cody Doucet of Lenexa, Kansas. Furthermore, she leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, friends, and extended family.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald James Doucet Sr., her parents, Joseph Noel David and Odie Forest David; and her brother, Joseph Cephus David.
Throughout her remarkable journey, Rosa Mae David Doucet, known to many as “Rose”, blessed countless lives with her unwavering devotion, compassion, and love.
