Theresa was born on October 20, 1955 to the late Charles and Mary Lee Bourgeois. A lifelong resident of Lawtell, she graduated from Lawtell High, Class of 1973. On December 20, 1975, she married Thomas E. Tolar, who survives her.
During their nearly 50-year marriage, they had 3 children who also survive her. She was known as “Momma” to Tasha (Adam) Carriere, Thomas “T-Tom” (Aimee) Tolar and Torie E. Tolar (Luke Fuselier).
She is also survived by those who knew her as “MiMi,” her grandchildren: Zoe Tolar, Anna Carriere, Kaden Carriere, Ava Tolar, Spencer Carriere, Thomas “Trae” Tolar, III; Gretchen Tolar, Maddux Tolar, Audrey Tolar and Alyce Tolar.
She was also known as “SiSis” by her older sister, Judy B. Castille, and younger brother, Michael J. Bourgeois, both of whom survive her.
Theresa also had a large number of godchildren, who lovingly called her “Nanan”—so many, in fact, that even those who weren’t her godchildren called her Nanan.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents: Charles Bourgeois, Jr. and Mary Lee Bourgeois in addition to twin grandsons: William and Jackson Tolar.
Momma, MiMi, SiSis, Nanan or simply Theresa will be remembered for her deep love of others and how deeply she was loved.
Theresa will be laid to rest following the funeral mass in St. Bridget’s Catholic Church cemetery.
