Thomas Darbonne

Opelousas- Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas Clifford Darbonne, age 95, will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.  in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.  Deacon Jermone Collins will officiate the services.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A Rosary Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.

Mr. Darbonne was born in Port Barre, Louisiana and was a lifetime resident of Opelousas. He passed away at his residence at 5:44 a.m. on July 10, 2021.

Mr. Darbonne was a devout Catholic and served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was the recipient of a purple heart.  He worked at a Gulf bulk plant and operated several service stations for 40 years prior to his retirement. He was a devoted husband for 71 years and a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, discussing politics, enjoyed telling jokes, and sharing long stories. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Genevieve Stoute Darbonne of Opelousas; one daughter, Rebecca Attardo of Montgomery, Texas; three sons: Donald Darbonne and Merlene Landry Darbonne of Lafayette, Kenneth Darbonne and Renee’ Dohmann Darbonne of Lafayette, and Gregory Darbonne of San Diego, California. He is also survived by one sister, Leona Dicapo of Melville; 7 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clef and Helen Wheaton Darbonne; three sisters: Lilian Bourque, Helen Matte, and Sylvia Pearce; and five brothers: Edwin, Joseph, Leon, Norris, and James.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Darbonne, Kenneth Darbonne, Ryan Darbonne, Gregory Darbonne, Reggie Guillory and Stephen Johnson.  Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Tom L. Darbonne, Harold Taylor, Sydney “Boy” Bourque, Paul Dicapo, and Dr. Michael Burnell.

The family would like to thank the Health Care Workers of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care (LHC) and the Health Care Assistants that made our father comfortable on his journey.

Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Mr. Darbonne to the St. Landry Parish Veterans Memorial in care of Mrs. Pat Mason-Guillory, P. O. Box 1550, Opelousas, LA, 70571.
