A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM for Verna Mae Leger on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA. Father Michael Vidrine will celebrate the Mass. The Rite of Committal and Burial will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.
Visitation will take place in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday evening by Deacon Brian Winn. The funeral home will re-open on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM.
Verna Mae Leger, age 85, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas on July 10, 2024. She was born on March 1, 1939, in Lawtell, Louisiana.
Verna’s warm and welcoming personality ensured she never met a stranger throughout her lifetime. She was a remarkable woman with a wide array of hobbies and interests. She was a talented seamstress and her skill extended to recovering furniture. Verna had a green thumb when it came to her garden; she found solace and joy in the outdoors while tending to her plants. Additionally, she enjoyed being surrounded by nature and the simple pleasure of fishing.
Verna Mae is survived by her sons Micky Leger (Tammy), Ricky Leger (Odelia), Shyne Leger (Beth), Mark Leger (Melinda), and daughter, Lisa Leger (companion, Linton Estilette); her sister, Virgie Arnold and her brother, Andrew Richard (Pampy). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other dear family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years of marriage, James Leger; her daughter, Susan Estilette; her brother-in-law, Irving Arnold; her great-grandchild, Harley Madison Albarado; her sisters, Lawrence Thibodeaux and Hazel Thibodeaux and her brothers, Leroy Richard and Lloyd Richard.
Throughout her life, Verna Mae touched the hearts of many with her kindness and generosity. Her legacy will live on through the memories shared by all who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life's journey. May she rest in peace knowing that she was loved immensely and will be deeply missed.
The pallbearers will be Tyler Leger, Cody Leger, Beau Leger, Tony James Estilette, Ryan Estilette and E.J. Estilette. Honorary pallbearers will be Leslie Courvelle, Courtney Jeanice, Megan Mulderick and Ali Mahne.
