Wayne Slocum

Krotz Springs - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Cecil Wayne Slocum at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Krotz Springs.  Father Michael DeBlanc will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Cecil Wayne Slocum, age 86, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

Wayne was a veteran of the Naval Reserves, the United States Army and served during the Korean War.  He was very patriotic, a staunch defender of the Constitution of the United States, a proud member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Wayne was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church, sang in the church choir and was a member of the St. Anthony's Men's Bible study.  He was a school board member in Coupland, TX, a member of the Krotz Springs Water Board and was president of the St. Landry Parish Road Commission.  Wayne received a football scholarship to (PRCC), formerly Pearl River Jr. College, the King Hubert VI Award for the Sportsmen Heritage Festival and the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal.  He loved poetry, gardening, carpentry, traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by daughters, Susan Guidry (Kerry) of Krotz Springs, La., Dewanna Morrissey (James) of Picayune, Miss.; nine grandchildren, Sandra Castille (David), Jason Halphen (Kelsey), Laurel Halphen (Matt), Derek Guidry (Hayley), Hunter Guidry (Kasey), James Morrissey (Kayla), Michael Morrissey (Mallory), Daniel Morrissey (Beth), Amy Ashworth (Tyler) and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death his wife, Margaret Slocum (wife of 50 years); his daughter, Terri Halphen; his great-grandsons, Mathew Ardoin and Job Halphen; his mother, Bertha Gerald; his father, Hugh A. Slocum; his brothers, Joe Slocum, Trellis Slocum, Carl Earl Slocum, Harold Slocum; his sisters, Lou Bergeron, Faye Thompson and his wife, Troy Hanchett Slocum.

Pallbearers will be Jason Halphen, Derek Guidry, Hunter Guidry, Joey Ardoin, David Castille and Matthew Wimberly.  Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Morrissey, Michael Morrissey and James John Morrissey, IV.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Krotz Springs with a rosary being prayed on at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening. The funeral home will re-open on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
