Port Barre- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Weldon Joseph Morgan, who was known to many as “Billy”, on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 93.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Weldon J. Morgan at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 407 Saizan Avenue, Port Barre, LA, 70577. Fr. Jared Suire will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Inurnment will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum in Port Barre, LA, with Fr. Clint Trahan officiating the graveside services.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home, 2845 S. Union Street, Opelousas, LA 70570. A Rosary service will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Billy proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1944-1949. He served on the USS Bennington, USS LSN, USS Fargo, and the USS Mississippi. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Sam Grimmett Oilfield Construction for many years. He was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre where he fulfilled many job duties with the church throughout his life. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3496 of Port Barre. He was a member of the choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the 1990s. He drove the church bus in 1991 for the kids going to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Vacation Bible School.
He loved to watch NFL Football especially the Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed watching the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, and LSU Football. He loved to cook for his family and cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a sentimental, caring, and loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather who had a loving personality. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him and will remember his signature quote, “With all my love all my life.”
Billy is survived by his wife (of 69 years 9 months and 12 days), Patsy Ann Ryder Morgan of Port Barre; his son, Richard Frank Morgan and wife, Debra Hart Diboll Morgan of Katy, TX; his daughter, Cecelia Ann Morgan of Houston, TX; three grandchildren: Rachel M. Morgan and husband, Josh W. Humphreys; Stacie L. Morgan, and Lauren E. Morgan; and two great-grandchildren, Dean Richard Kangas and Delaney June Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Edmond Morgan and Amanda Mary Dupont Morgan; and his six siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Building and Maintenance Fund, P. O. BOX 129, Port Barre, LA 70577.
