Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Donald James Brown at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.  The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.

Visitation will begin in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. visitation will continue at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 12:15 p.m.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald James Brown, age 68, on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Opelousas General Health System.

To know Donald was to love him. His love of life was contagious to all around him. A true family man, he was devoted to his wife of 46 years, Rosemary, his eight children, and 22 grandchildren. Sharing his love of horses, baseball, and other sports with his grandkids, he could often be found cheering them on with pride. He loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, cutting grass, and working on his beloved farm. He worked as a house painter for many years and was excellent at his craft. He served his community and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He had an infectious laugh, a joyous spirit, and was a remarkable example of how to live in the moment. He was a man who lived by his faith and will be dearly missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rose Mary Schexneider Brown. His son, Jerrod Heath Brown and his wife Stephanie. His son, Terry Jude “T.J.” Brown. His son, Dillion Michael Brown and his wife Skyla. His daughter, Holly Bertrand and her husband Anthony “Kip”. His daughter, Trista Renee' Bourgeois, and her husband Alex. His daughter, Megan Miller and her husband, Steve. His daughter, Chassidy Nicole Bruce and her husband Jacob and daughter in law Nina Stelly. His brothers, Charles Brown and spouse Joyce, Gary Brown and spouse Kenneth, Curtis Brown and spouse Bonita, Glenn Brown and spouse Karen, Kenneth Brown and spouse Andrea. His sisters, Judy Brown, Carolyn Daigle and spouse Grady, Jackie Thibodeaux and spouse Kenneth, Diane Lalonde and spouse Leroy, Mary Thomlinson and spouse Allen, and Emma Louise Brown.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Wesley, Lindsey, and Drake Brown; Gabriella, Brianna, and Hayden Bertrand; Ashton, Bella, Zoe, Ava, and Trevor Brown; Michael, Bryan, and Eli Bourgeois; Landon, Liam, and Vivianne Miller; Beckett, Cadence, and Brantley Bruce; and Sylvia Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Curtis Brown and Mary Geraldine Richard Brown; his son, Michael Thad Brown; his brothers, Anthony "Tony" Brown, and Terry Brown; his granddaughter, Emma Grace Miller and his great-grandchildren, Paxton James and Maria Rose Makarus.

Pall bearers will be Jerrod Brown, Terry Jude “T.J.” Brown, Dillion Brown, Anthony “Kip” Bertrand, Alex Bourgeois, Steve Miller, and Jacob Bruce.
