It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marjorie “Margie” Jagneaux Quebedeaux announce her passing on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. The Reverend Monsignor Russell Harrington will celebrate the Mass. Rite of committal will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visiting beginning on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Dwayne Joubert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Visiting will resume in the funeral home on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.

Margie Quebedeaux was born on May 22, 1945 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Annie and Austin Jagneaux.  She graduated from Academy of Immaculate Conception High School in 1963.  She attended T.H. Harris School of Nursing in Opelousas and in 1965 became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Margie began her nursing career at Opelousas General Hospital in 1967 as a medical surgical nurse.  Throughout her career, she worked in various departments including the Education Department, where she taught basic CPR, high-risk infant CPR, Safesitter, and educational program for teens.  In 1983, she began working as a substance abuse nurse in the Koala Unit on 6th floor, the first substance center in this area.  In 1986, she earned her board certification as a Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Nurse.  Shortly after, she started the People Actively Growing Emotionally PAGE group, which assists individuals with counseling for substance abuse recovery and emotional issues like depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders.  The PAGE group is still active today having meetings every Tuesday at OGHS.  Margie was also the co-founder of the Suicide Support Group, which meets bi-monthly.

In 1990, Margie began cycling and really enjoyed the challenge.  She competed regularly in the Senior Olympics winning gold medals in the 5K, 10K and 1-mile races.  Margie was an avid golfer, beginning her interest in playing in 2001.  You would find her on the golf course at least a couple times a week.  In August of 2019, she won the Indian Hills Women’s Championship Award.

Margie was the 2017 recipient of the Rotary Club of Opelousas’ “Service Above Self” award for excellence in healthcare and for her contributions of going above and beyond for her community.

In 2018, Margie retired from Opelousas General Health System after 45 years of dedicated service.  During her tenure, she was awarded the OGHS “LPN of the Year”, as well as “Employee of the Year”.  She was currently serving OGHS by providing counseling services through the Employee Assistance Program.

She is survived by her life partner Sharleen Meyers: sons Keith Quebedeaux and wife Dana, Stephen Quebedeaux; brother Joseph Dale Jagneaux and wife Carolina; sister Cheryl Bergeron and husband Buford; grandchildren Kyle Quebedeaux and wife Kerry, Jacob Quebedeaux, Charlie Quebedeaux, and Ava Quebedeaux; nieces Paula Darbonne and husband Shawn, Courtney Oertel and husband Jim, Samantha Dailey and husband Corey; and nephew Nick Leger and wife Jamie.

She was preceded in death by her parents Austin and Annie Jagneaux.

Pallbearers will be Keith Quebedeaux, Stephen Quebedeaux, Kyle Quebedeaux, Jacob Quebedeaux, Charlie Quebedeaux, and Austin Darbonne. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hunt Deblanc and Charles Quebedeaux.
