Ronald Barras

October 29, 1943 — June 13, 2022

Melville-It is with deep sorrow we regretfully announce the passing of Ronald “Ronnie” Barras on Monday, June 13, 2022, at the age of 78.

Mr. Barras worked his entire career as a big crane/heavy equipment operator. He was very dedicated to his craft and was able to take an early retirement at the age of 55. For many years following his retirement he was sought after to return to the big rigs by his former employers due to the mastery of his operating skills.  For nearly 57 years, he was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 406. During these years, he made many great friends along the way.

When Ronnie wasn’t operating machinery, he could often be found spending time outdoors in the woods hunting or on the water fishing. He loved to run catfish lines and bow fish freshwater gar. One of Ronnie’s most enjoyed pastimes was sitting on his front porch swing, talking with friends or just relaxing and watching the world go by.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Antoine “Tony” Barras and Vera Mae Satterley Barras.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shelly Quebedeaux Barras, and their infant son.

Ronnie will forever be remembered and missed by his only daughter, Wendy Barras Ramer and her husband, Jamey of Lafayette, LA. He also leaves behind two step grandchildren, Hillary Ramer Mills and Jayce Ramer.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, in the St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery in Krotz Springs, LA. Rev. Fr. Michael DeBlanc will officiate the services.
