Thelma "Chic" Manuel

Opelousas – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Thelma “Chic” Labbe Manuel at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, La.  Father Gregory Simien will Celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 1:00 p.m.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ms. Thelma Labbe Manuel, age 93, of Opelousas, La.  She passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Chic started her career as an LPN at the St. Landry Clinic and then worked for Dr. W.J. Briley for numerous years.  She also worked at C & R Western Ware where she sold western ware and as well took care of the sewing needs of her customers.  After retiring, Chic continued to provide seamstress and sewing work for the Opelousas community.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

She is survived by her Godchild, Kenny Cannon and wife, Theresa “Cuc” Kaiser; her sisters, Martha Dean and Ann Bertrand; daughter-in-law, Martha W. Manuel and her Godchild, Monet Labbe Lanclos and her husband, Paul.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Joseph Manuel; her sons, Tommy Manuel and Thaddeus “Teddy” John Manuel; her parents, Austin Labbe, Sr. and Laurence Thibodeaux Labbe; her brothers, Austin Labbe, Jr. and E.L. Labbe and her sisters, Vivian L. Labbie and Louberta “Lou” Labbe Cannon.

Pallbearers will be Jay Dean, Gerard Labbe, Kenny Cannon, Daryl Bragg, Paul Lanclos and Tommy Diesi.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home and the Marianites of Holy Cross.
